Orton Gillingham Groups

In the 2022-2023 school year, we are excited to implement a core literacy curriculum that meets updated guidelines from the Colorado Department of Education. All Highlands Ranch area schools will be using the Wonders reading curriculum.

The Wonders 2023 curriculum has drawn upon decades of rigorous literacy studies, collaborated with preeminent reading researchers and experts, and listened to and incorporated feedback from educators and users.

Sean Ryan, president of McGraw Hill, says “The 2023 edition ensures the continuation of high-quality, consistent and effective literacy instruction aligned to the science of reading. Students will encounter the right content at the right moment in their learning journey, promoting stronger educational outcomes.”

Across independent studies, third-party evaluations and testimonials from a range of customers, Wonders has been proven again and again to contribute to student success. A recent review from EdReports.org rated the program highly in each of its three pillars: Text Quality and Complexity, Building Knowledge, and Usability.

Reading Comprehension Groups

In the 2020-2021 school year, Coyote Creek switched to EnVision Math. enVision is the first math series that combines problem-based learning with visual learning. Students learn more about math by solving rich, reality-based problems. They gain a deeper, clearer understanding of math concepts with visual models and scaffolds in every lesson.

Some of the resources including in the enVision math curriculum are:

  • Problem based learning followed by visual learning

  • Student-centered Pick a Project activities

  • 3 Act Tasks that use modeling for productive struggle

  • Differentiated instruction strategies included in lessons

EnVision Math is used at our feeder school, Ranch View Middle School, so that students will have a seamless transition from elementary to middle school mathematics.

Teachers at CCE use a variety of resources to teach Science & Social Studies curriculum. In the 2022-2023 school year, we will continue using STEMscopes for science. We are so excited to continue incorporating this amazing curriculum into our classrooms! Teachers will also incorporate other resources as needed to supplement their Science and Social Studies curriculum.

Resources

Because DCSD voters approved 5A and 5B, all elementary schools now have a full-time school counselor! Our counselor will be working with classes, small groups, and individual students to support social emotional learning, utilizing programs such as Zones of Regulation. In the 2021-2022 school year, teachers will also have access to MindUp resources.
